[Chances are...]

you probably annoy me, if...

1. You chew with your mouth open;
2. You stand in line at the grocery or deli or bank rambling on and on to the cell phone attached to your head (I don't want to hear about your pap smear or Auntie Babs' gout);
3. You drive an SUV (unless, of course, you have a legitimate reason, i.e., you live in the mountains or you actually go off-roading);
4. You gab carelessly away while driving your SUV;
5. You are one of those "I'm a model"/"I'm an actress"/"I'm a poet" type girls (either the gothy or blonde-ditz variety--I hate them both), working as a stripper to pay for beauty school in order to buy acting lessons or cocaine or glossy 8x10s of your ass or whatever;
[5a. And it's even worse if you are #5 and you have a "beautiful" two-year-old daughter who lives with your parents (for a variety of very obvious reasons)]
6. If you're a "pagan" whose "religious" talk consists of how bad and wrong organized religions are [oh, and don't forget that Catholicism is a big ripoff! You can't get enough of that!]

[Baby J's Big Day and Ordinary Time]

Yesterday, which according to the Catholic Church was the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, and the beginning of Ordinary Time, or Carnival, I wired the kitchen, washed clothes (an "ordinary" task, yes) and watched the season premiere of Carnivale. It all fit, I s'pose.

I realized this weekend that any karmic debt, the manifestations of which have been the topic many times in this blog, must have been paid in full. My house is coming along well (today, it was confirmed that the hardwood floors in the livingroom are nearly mint), I found out that for the final inspection, the detached garage does not need new wiring, and, thanks to an audit of my closing costs, I was sent two checks this weekend totaling $270. (In karmic-debt world, unlucky Amanda would have, instead, received a notice that I still owed $500 in closing costs.) In addition, the final inspection of the electric will be taking place this week, and, Wednesday, I'll get help picking colors for the bedroom and wallpaper for the bathroom and kitchen. Excellent.

Sunday, I, unfortunately, did not get a chance to run to the glorious Lancome counter to try out and possibly purchase the new Absolue foundation. Instead, I was bleeding my fingers with unruly 12-2 copper wire, getting the final 20-amps wired in the kitchen and chiseling an outlet for the new garbage disposal. I briefly considered taking pictures of all the This-Old-House madness (I do have "before" photos), but I decided that I want no memory of the dust. Though, a shot of the large bedroom, after I had finished my bouts with the insulation equipment (note: do NOT rent from Cinci Tool Rental), would have been priceless. What a mess!

[...I'm not sure, maybe dynamite]

Life Aquatic: Go see it.

I was initially planning on going out tonight, perhaps catch a movie in Newport. But the fact that I will probably spend a pretty penny at the Dillard's Lancome counter on Sunday has kept me indoors for the night with a cheap 12-pack o' Red Dog.

Another TV party for me, hooray!

I am shameless, but this new Absolue foundation is calling me. A silly materialistic whore I am.

[The New Year's Update, finally]

NYE was spent at a rather boring show, in the company of people who resembled characters in Cocoon and Being John Malkovich (read: old people) and some typical trendy types that I don't normally talk to. The high point of the evening, clearly, was overhearing a baggy-eyed greaser girl talk about all the trazodone and ephedrine she took earlier in the day (the ephedrine was to "counteract" the trazodone...).

The second high point, of course, was that there was no cover charge at the venue of thee olde, and the beer was cheap. Always a bonus.

As for my house...

Saturday, the bedroom carpeting was removed, revealing that the hardwood floors, as we suspected, are in good shape. However, previous owners from the days o' yesteryear, decided it would be easier to stain around the rugs that were once in the room, rather than staining the entire floors (this, however, is the case in only two of the three rooms). Tomorrow or Friday, I will get a quote, see how much it will cost to remedy the two-toned woodwork. Also tomorrow, an interior decorator-type will help me pick some colors for the three bedrooms and wallpaper for the bathroom and kitchen. Soon, I will have a real home!

Sunday, wiring in the basement was pretty much completed, except we did'nt have a correct light fixture for the former garage, which might eventually become a finished gameroom.

I think I owe my dad new drill bits. And perhaps my firstborn child. And a kidney. He's got to be the most useful father in the world. Really.

This week has been back to work, and for a full five days!
